RunThrough Trails is approaching the end its first season of events across Europe, culminating with RunThrough Trails Ascona-Locarno in the heart of the Swiss Alps on Saturday 1 November 2025. Framed by Lake Maggiore and beautiful Alpine peaks the event will encompass a 24k with 1300m elevation, a 42k with 2500m of elevation as well as a family friendly kids race in the heart of the town.
2025 marked a milestone year for RunThrough Trails as it expanded beyond the UK to host its first events across Europe. Having already established itself as a leading organiser of trail running events in the UK as an offshoot of the parent brand RunThrough, which delivers over 300 events annually for more than 400,000 participants, this move represented a major step in the brand’s global growth. Driven by a passion to create unforgettable experiences in some of Europe’s most iconic trail running destinations and to inspire people to RUN INSPIRED, RunThrough Trails successfully brought its renowned event expertise to the continent with outstanding results.
“From Girona to Morzine and across to Interlaken, our first European season has been a joy to deliver and a privilege to share with so many runners,” said James Tilley, RunThrough Trails Director. “Ascona-Locarno is the perfect finale. I am incredibly proud of our team, our partners, and our volunteers for making this year so special, and I cannot wait to see the season crowned off in Ticino.”
Starting at Largo Franco Zorzi in the heart of Locarno, RunThrough Trails Ascona-Locarno invites runners to choose from 24k, 42k, and a family-friendly 1.5k. The route begins in the city centre and sweeps through the iconic Piazza Grande before tracing the river toward the mountains. Lush, green trails with panoramic viewpoints along the way and a memorable climb to Pizzo Leone that tops out at over 1,600 metres. After conquering the climbs and the descents back toward town, participants return to a warm Swiss-Italian welcome and a vibrant atmosphere of cafés and restaurants along the lakeside.
