A half marathon is a great stepping stone on the way to taking part in a full marathon. If you’ve been training for a while and have a few races under your belt, a half marathon is often the next step up from a 10k race. There’s something to suit everyone on our race calendar, whether it’s your first half marathon or you’re a seasoned runner. With races in Manchester being organised year-round, there’s no better time to select your next event and get training! All our races are on sealed surfaces, so you know what to expect on race day. We’ve got you covered with hydration stations and on-the-ground team members to support you on the big day.

How long is a Half Marathon?

A half marathon is 13.1 miles, or 21.09 kilometres.

Is the Manchester Half Marathon flat?

We specialise in road races, so our races are generally run on flat, sealed surfaces. If you want to check the route and course you’ll be taking on the big day, check out the individual event page.

Do you have to train before a Half Marathon?

It’s a good idea to train before a half marathon, but if you already have some level of fitness, you may be able to comfortably complete the race without training. However, you’ll likely have more fun, a shorter period of recovery and a faster finish time if you train for at least a few weeks prior to your half marathon.

What is considered a good time for a Half Marathon?

Anything less than 2 hours is seen as a respectable time to complete a half marathon. Elite athletes often aim to cross the finish line in 70 minutes or less, or 90 minutes or less for seasoned domestic runners.

What is a good Half Marathon time for a beginner?
