Join us for the Washington Village 10K on Sunday 21 February 2027!

Take on this new, fully road‑closed 10K through the heart of historic Washington Village. This scenic two‑lap route is perfect for PB chasers, first‑timers and club runners, with fantastic local support and a welcoming village atmosphere.

The course winds around picturesque village streets, passing landmarks including the historic village forge and the beautiful grounds of Washington Old Hall. The award-winning Washington Village Green provides a stunning backdrop to the race, while enthusiastic spectators and welcoming local residents create a memorable race-day experience.

Clear signage and friendly marshals guide you throughout, helping you settle into your rhythm and enjoy every mile of this unique closed‑road event. With support from local partners, including The Galleries Shopping Centre, you'll have everything you need for a great day of running.

The final stretch brings you back towards the sports fields at Washington Leisure Centre, where cheering crowds and a vibrant finish-line atmosphere provide the perfect boost to the line. Enjoy fantastic support from volunteers and plenty of encouragement from start to finish.

You can add an official event t-shirt to your entry at checkout for more than 30% off. Produced in partnership with RT Kit, it features the event logo on the chest and is the perfect keepsake to celebrate your race. Offering the t-shirt as an optional extra helps us keep entry costs lower for runners who prefer not to include merchandise.

Once you enter, you’ll receive a confirmation email straight away, and full event information will be sent to you closer to race day.

Event Information

This is a fully road-closed two-lap 10K through the heart of historic Washington Village, run on road surfaces around picturesque village streets. Along the way you'll pass landmarks including the historic village forge, the grounds of Washington Old Hall and the award-winning village green, before the final stretch brings you back towards the sports fields at Washington Leisure Centre for the finish.

Marshals are positioned throughout the course, with clear distance markers and directional signage to keep you on the correct route. Please follow marshal instructions at all times, especially at any points where the course narrows or runners merge.

Getting There

Washington is well connected by public transport from across the North East, and we strongly recommend using public transport where possible due to road closures around the course.

From Newcastle and Gateshead:

Frequent bus services operate from Newcastle City Centre, Gateshead Interchange and Heworth directly to The Galleries Shopping Centre.

From Sunderland:

Regular bus services connect Sunderland City Centre with Washington, with stops located at The Galleries Shopping Centre.

From Durham and Chester-le-Street:

Direct and connecting bus services provide access to Washington throughout the day, with The Galleries serving as the main transport hub for the area.

Metro:

Passengers travelling by Metro can use Heworth or Gateshead Interchange Metro/Bus Stations and connect to Washington via frequent local bus services.

The Galleries Shopping Centre is a short walk from both the event village at Washington Leisure Centre and the spectator zone within Washington Village Centre.

Some buses may run on diverted routes during the event due to road closures.

Parking

Due to road closures associated with the event, parking will not be available at Washington Leisure Centre or within the immediate start and finish area.

Event parking will be available at The Galleries Shopping Centre, which offers ample parking and convenient access to both the event village and Washington Village Centre. Participants and spectators should follow event signage and steward directions on arrival.

A dedicated spectator zone will be located in Washington Village Centre, providing excellent viewing opportunities and access to local cafés, shops and amenities throughout the morning.

Please allow extra time for your journey, follow signed pedestrian routes and avoid parking within residential streets to help minimise disruption for local residents.

Baggage

There's a bag drop in the Event Village — just follow the signs. Your baggage tag is the strip at the bottom of your race number: tear it off, attach it to your bag and hand it to our bag drop team. To collect your bag after your race, simply show your race number.

Toilets

Toilets are at the Event Village — follow the signs. Queues build in the final half hour before the start, so go early!

Water & Refreshments

A water station is positioned around the course at approximately 5k, with bottled water available at the finish. We recommend staying hydrated in the lead‑up to the event.

Race Pack Posting

Race packs are posted to everyone who entered by Sunday 7th February; anyone who entered after that collects theirs at registration on the day. If yours hasn't arrived by the Friday before the race, email info@runthrough.co.uk or collect it at registration.

Warm-Up & Race Start

A group warm‑up will take place 15 minutes before the race start. After this, runners will be asked to line up behind the pace boards showing expected finish times, helping everyone to self‑seed safely and smoothly before the start.

Cut-Off

10k — 10:30

The cut‑off time for the Washington Village 10k is 90mins, due to the road closures in place.

If you think you may take longer than this, please email info@runthrough.co.uk before the event so we can advise on the options. We want everyone to finish, and letting us know in advance helps us plan marshal support and manage road‑closure timings safely.

You’re very welcome to come and support the event. You can enjoy the atmosphere of the Event Village to see both the start and the finish or you can also head out onto the closed‑road sections around Washington Village to cheer runners along the route.

Best Places To Watch

A dedicated spectator zone is set up in Washington Village Centre, with excellent viewing as runners come past on both laps, plus local cafés, shops and amenities close by throughout the morning.

The Event Village at Washington Leisure Centre is the other spot to head for to see both the start and finish on the sports fields and a lively atmosphere as runners come down the final stretch.

Accessibility

Accessible viewing areas are available, and our team is on hand to support anyone who may need assistance on arrival.

Dogs are welcome in public areas but must stay on a lead and be under control at all times.
