Runner Retreats – Morzine

Morzine Runner Retreats

From 2nd – 8th July Runner Retreats whisked 28 runners, of all ages and abilities, away for an incredible trip to Morzine.

Runner Retreats, delivered in partnership with New Levels Coaching, have the vision of providing athletes with unforgettable experiences in the most inspirational locations. The retreats, workshops and experiences have been specifically designed by runners – for runners and aim to educate, inspire and re-energise runners encouraging them to create healthy and life changing habits, which will transform their life and allow them to find their running potential.

Runners on the Morzine trip included a 70 year old masters 100m sprinter, two female friends who met while running a 24hr ultra and a whole range of club runners and joggers all there to be inspired, learn and relax. There are some bullet points below that summarise some of the trip highlights and our co-founder Matt Wood also captured some content from the event that can be viewed here. The week’s activities included:

  • Morning stretching overlooking the lake, led by Gemma.
  • Physiological testing session around the lake with lactate testing and then a workshop about lactate, performance and training techniques based around each individual’s test results.
  • Coach led trail runs and hikes exploring the surrounding trails.
  • Coached gym session teaching technique, skills and drills that can be replicated at home.
  • Inspirational talk from ultra runner Edwina Sutton, who came 3rd in the UK Spine race.
  • Day trip to Lausanne to visit the Olympic Museum.
  • Group paddle boarding and open water swimming sessions.
  • Fully catered meals in the hotel that had been booked out for the retreat, giving the runners lots of free space to chill out, and interact with each other.

Early bird spots for next year’s Morzine Runner Retreats trip are available to book now as well as other multi day and single day retreats.

Warrington Running Festival Final Ballot Wave

On 31st July the final wave of runners received places to take part in The Warrington Running Festival, which will be the world’s first free to enter, closed road and chip timed running festival.

The Warrington Running Festival, taking place on 24th September 2023, is funded by the RunThrough Foundation, a community interest company with the aim of providing unprecedented opportunities to those from disadvantaged communities and placing running, health and fitness at the heart of communities. In line with this, as well as The Warrington Running Festival being the world’s first free to enter running festival for all successful ballot applicants, a minimum of 20% of places will be allocated to individuals from low income areas of Warrington.

RunThrough Runner Feature – Raja Aslam

This month in our RunThrough Runner Feature we would like to introduce you to Raja Aslam. Raja started running in 2019 and since then has completed 6 marathons (all of which have been for charity) along with numerous half marathons, 10ks and 5ks.

Runner Feature

This year, Raja completed his biggest challenge yet of completing a marathon while fasting during the month of Ramadan. This was to raise money for the Abu Faisal Trust and his donation page remains open here.

Raja’s next challenge is something rather shorter and speed focused in nature and is aiming to run a Half Marathon PB at The Warrington Running Festival on 24th September. Read more here.
