Feeling like a zombie now, but I think that’s the side effect of such an adrenaline high! ? What a rush!! I wasn’t taking today very seriously at all – “only 10k” felt easy after the Half last weekend – so I even had a couple of glasses of wine last night! ? My plan for today was just to keep it steady – to use my new watch to monitor my time, and stay within a small window, say 8.50-9min miles. But then I realised my 10k PB was 8.50 miles average, so I thought I’d keep it just under that… Then I started, and I thought my watch was broken as it was flashing 6s and 7s, but I guess I just had a fast start (or it took a little while to settle), as it was accurate for the rest of the race – and I was staying close to 8m20!?! It felt amazing to have this sensation of awareness and control over my pace – to be able to course correct quickly, rather than waiting for a whole mile to figure out how I was doing. And, more importantly, I was able to focus 100% on my race against the clock, and not get distracted by anyone else around me – I ran my own race from start to finish. ?? And what a Finish too – I kept increasing my stride for the last lap, and pushed hard for the home stretch, with a focused sprint to the line – it felt so good to still have it in me, and achieve a PB, cutting 4 whole minutes off my last 10k time!! And then, I mean, what a surprise afterwards, to see the inspirational @taniafarah86 had taken part today too! I ran with Lady Farah! Woohoo! ?? . . Today was always going to be meaningful – running from the Bandstand in Battersea Park where @mimages and I got married just over a year ago, but it was a bonus that we both got PBs, AND that the medal was of Battersea Power Station, one of the projects I’m proudest I worked on! What a day, what a high – no wonder I’m tired now! ?? . . #runninghigh #batterseapark #10kPB #personalbest #runthroughuk #batterseapowerstation

When races don’t go to plan and photos catch you mid giggle… With a week to go before @royalparkshalf today’s @runthroughuk 10k was where I wanted to test the legs at race pace or ideally faster. This summer I had attempted to gain some speed over shorter distances and wanted to see where I was at (and if I’m honest maybe match my pb) .. It’s safe to say it wasn’t meant to be… a whopping stitch at 3.5k left me having to walk some sections despite the legs feeling ok. .. So I feel disappointed? YES. Do I now feel nervous about doing a half marathon in just over a week? YES. Is that ok? DEFINITELY! We sometimes all have days where running is hard and it doesn’t mean that every run will be like this. Did I still enjoy myself overall… YES! … So one long-ish chilled run is on the cards for tomorrow and then it’s time to taper and let the body get ready for what next Sunday will bring. Thank you so much to @runthroughuk for the place today and massive congratulations to @crunch_2_brunch on the shiny new on ?. #ukrunchat #runthroughuk #batterseapark10k
