On a sunny morning on the 5th of September, the streets of Altrincham looked a little bit different. Supported on by ProjectYou, Altrincham Radio, and JD gyms the town centre turned into a hive of activity, as the crowds gathered ready for RunThrough’s inaugural Altrincham 10k.

The 1200 runners started on Cross Street and toured a course around town and the surrounding areas, which was lined the entire way by spectators, before finishing in the same place, to be greeted home by a roaring crowd, a unique Altricham 10k medal and a stash of goodies.

With several runners participating in groups and for charity clubs, there was a real community spirit flowing throughout, fueled on by Bowden Rugby club Choir on route, and AGBS’s swingband performance at the finish line. Special thanks should also go to SewaDay for volunteering to man the half way water station. These event’s wouldn’t be the same without a wonderful team of volunteers and the community that makes them run!

The race was won in a speedy 33.09 by Blackpool’s Marco Parolin, closely followed in by Joanna Marsden, taking the women’s crown in 36.18. Several runners from Altrincham Ac and local clubs participated running some speedy times on their home turf. Whilst others used this doorstep event as an opportunity to dust off their trainers and get involved in running for the first time. Our oldest runner of the day was Barbara Thackray aged 83, running for St Ann’s hospice, she was clapped over the line, as a true inspiration to many on the day.
